Buzzflikr Blogs: Dan’s Pollen Count

hey folks,

After taking care of some rolling buzzflikr web server issues its time to have a positive blog post. When issues arise its easier to write about problems than the things you really like that you are working on. Of course there is only so much that can be shared, but hey – thats the nature of the tech job.

Onto my topic of “getting more social.” To start, Buzzflikr just cracked the 1,100 followers mark on Twitter! {follow us!} We’ve been sending out a few tweets a week to highlight a few things around the hive.

Now, moving onto Facebook, we’ve amassed a small fan base of less than 100. We know there are way more of you out there on Facebook, so hop on over and become a fan to get exclusive updates, and check out our other exclusive FB content – http://fb.buzzflikr.com

Now, that is that for the social internet, but what about the classic social? We’re that too! Buzzflikr will be returning to the FOCUS show during market week – June 13 – 15. The Buzzflikr team will be at the CATCH A BUZZ Lounge providing refreshments and complimentary PR, Branding, and IT advice. Put it on your calendars and we’ll see you there!

A few odd issues have arisen in the hive today. One affecting the load times of certain pages, specifically the homepage. I was able to find out part of the problem was the way RSS feeds were being pulled in. So for the time being a few things are disabled as I work out why it happened in the first place.

There is also a few other issues to attend to, but nothing critical.

On a lighter note, its cinco de mayo! Celebracion! I missed blogging all through April, sorry about that! More tech updates coming…

A few stories broke this week concerning the rapid growth of both Twitter and Facebook. The latest figures put Twitter growing at over 1,300 %… can you believe that!? Facebook has been growing steadily as well and continues to reporting 149% growth in February alone. (as compared to Feb. 2008)

Now, how does this affect you – the brand, marketer, or whatever you may be? GO TO WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE! It make sense right? You want to gain or keep more customers, and social networking reaches out to an active audience that has a higher chance of seeing you than other traditional methods. Creating a Facebook Page [such as fb.buzzflikr.com] taps into the huge audience (175 million active users) that you can constantly reach out to. On the other side, Twitter [tweet.buzzflikr.com] is the micro-blogging revolution that allows ‘followers’ to subscribe to your updates… which turns into X amount of viewers instantaneously.

What I’m trying to say here in so few words is that social networking is a huge new resource to tap into. Twitter and Facebook are just two examples with incredible growth and opportunity right now, but there is a plethora of ways to ‘connect’ in this exciting ‘web 2.0.’ I’ll go over more in future posts.

We’ve been working on the next version of our site since… well pretty much since I launched the first version. Thats just the way it goes in these extremely fast times. We are definately at the point of needing a fresh face to the website.

We are looking for graphic designers who would like to provide mockups of a new version of Buzzflikr.com. Specifically we would like a layered Photoshop file that can be turned over to a coder. [If you code templates for CMS's then by all means there is a bonus for that]

We are prepared to work with you on any method of ‘payment,’ whether it be monetary or otherwise. We are a team of professionals in the fashion, PR, and technical industries and have alot to offer if you are looking for something other than cash.

As you can see we have some growth and action under our heels. We have seen exciting growth all across the board – a doubling in google search results, our Alexa ranking up over 1.5 million, and triple the amount of unique visitors!

November was a great month with Siana on board and we’re still picking up the pace! I will be making a dedicated effort to more blog posting because there is lots always going on in the background.

I wanted to bring a few things to your attention.

• The Stingers menu at the top has been modified so you can view Style Stingers (our public monthly newsletter) and Bee Stings (our weekly Colonist newsletter) separately.

As of today our stylish blogger, CC has now launched seebycc.com. “See by CC” is dubbed ‘the chic fix for savvy editors,’ and we aim to do just that.

On the technical side of things, I would like to improve in a variety of areas, yet this is a great start. We’re running Wordpress to keep everything easy and in order. There are many tools out there to utilize in the blogosphere, and I’ll get us on board as soon as possible. The most valuable part of a weblog is always its content, and CC will be blogging like mad now that she’s all setup.

Google has released its own web browser by the name of Google Chrome. Its being released to the world for free to compete with the likes of Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox…. along with a slew of other web browsers. Its my job to know about the many different web browsers that are out there and how the websites I manage and create look and function while using those browsers. Its a pleasure to say that Buzzflikr works mighty fast in Google Chrome.

After a quite frustrating stint using a different weblogging solution I decided it was time to move to something I know. Buzzflikr blogs are now running on the popular Wordpress blogging system. The transition is smooth and we’ll all be blogging more than ever!

Hi All! Did you know that as a Buzzflikr COLONIST you have INSTANT online exposure. Once you’re on, within 24 – 48 hours you’ll be climbing up search engine listings. Setting up your profile on Buzzflikr is first and foremost to get more eyes looking at your company. We built the system built on that principle – what is best for our COLONISTS utilizing the latest web technologies.

We’re still in BETA phase and our progress has been excellent! New users are coming and exploring the site as well as signing up and setting up their profiles. We’ve had about 500 unique visitors thus far and about 3000 pageviews. Not staggering traffic yet exciting due to the minimal marketing we have produced. Our focus has not been to become HUGE in our beta phase but rather to cultivate our colony and establish a platform of great features for our clients.

Speaking of features, I’ve got lots in the works! Our URL system is nearly finished. If you’re on Myspace then you have probably setup your own URL for which people can find you easily. We are implementing a similar feature for all of our profile types – including DRONES, WORKERS, and COLONISTS! (for our lingo read here)

Hello all and welcome to Buzzflikr.

We’ve just launched our website and I wanted to fill you in on a few things.

First of all, WE’RE IN BETA!

Which basically means certain parts of our site is still under construction. Sometimes you may see something really weird… most likely it’s because of that. Just shoot me an email at daniel@buzzflikr.com to let me know exactly what you were trying to do. I’m here to keep the hive buzzing so let me know if you see anything that might be wrong.

Second, WE’RE CLOSE TO WHERE WE WANT TO BE!
Just because we’re working on things, doesn’t mean it’s all broken or unsafe.Over the next three months I’ll be fine tuning the system and the best way to do that is to get people on the site and using it. We’re glad to have our launch colonists (like maybe you!) because they are a vital part of the growing process. We have worked hard over many months to make sure to get it right and provide a great service for our clients.

Third, LETS GET BUZZING!
