Buzzflikr Blogs: Dan’s Pollen Count

I updated the last blog post that Profiles were back online but I thought I’d let you all know what’s going on. One of the components that controls certain aspects of our profile/user system was acting up… real bad. Over the past weeks I’ve been wrestling with it non stop and have finally found some solutions. I’ve already worked in some things behind the scenes yet more will be happening over this weekend and I’ll be sending out some announcements next week.

Major Moving:

Since I did find some solutions for one of our major problems, we’ve also found some solutions to other problems we’ve been having… for one: website SLOOOOWNESSS. We apologize, nobody wants to wait around for websites to load nowadays, and believe me what I say I’m obsessed with fast loading websites. I have decided to move us over to a different webhosting company… Media Temple. I (as well as many other BIG companies like Nike, Starbucks, Deisel) have trusted (mt) for years and I’m looking forward to our new home.

I’ll be performing this work over this weekend (Aug 8 - 10) and some may spill into next week yet I’ll make sure to keep updating the blog.

While doing some standard maintenance as well as adding some new features I have run into issues with our Profile management system. Please read on for how this affects you.

FIRST - NO DATA HAS BEEN LOST!

All profiles and data are all intact, we are just having an issue with displaying everything correctly. We are in contact with the profile management support team and working diligently to restore this functionality.

RESTORE TIMELINE:

Hopefully with 24 - 48 hours of this posting [July 15 1:30AM]

CURRENT COLONISTS:

• profile viewing and editing unavailable

CURRENT EDITORS:

• you cannot view colonist profiles
• viewing and editing your own profile is unavailable

CURRENT DRONES / REGISTERED FREE USERS:

• all functions should be working correctly, let me know if you have an issue.

I will be posting updates as they happen. Thank you for your patience as we are working hard to restore complete functionality.

** UPDATE Thursday 7/17/08 6:00pm **

Profile viewing has still not be restored. Apparently this is affecting multiple customers of the same product we are using. We apologize once again for the downtime and I am working constantly to get this issue resolved.

** UPDATE Wednesday 7/23/08 5:45pm **

Profile viewing has been restored… mostly. At the very least profile viewing of all account types is available. Everything is STILL not completely the way it should be. I’m still working on this stuff. I apologize once again for the extended downtime.

After a quite frustrating stint using a different weblogging solution I decided it was time to move to something I know. Buzzflikr blogs are now running on the popular Wordpress blogging system. The transition is smooth and we’ll all be blogging more than ever!

Over the past month lots have been going on behind the scenes and I just wanted to mention a few things to keep you guys informed and a part of our hive. - The website is slow Yep, I’ve noticed it too! This issue is being attended too as soon as possible. I am planning some changes (and most likely some website downtime) over the next two weeks. - User Interface clean-up Pretty much everything the first time it’s built isn’t perfect. You have to keep innovating, re-engineering, re-aligning and re-everything. It’s my goal to keep things as simple as possible for you to find what you are looking and/or just browsing for. - Features Some features were not launched in beta and some we’ve come up with learning from our beta period! I will as active as I can keeping all members and visitors up to date with what we can offer you.

Hi All! Did you know that as a Buzzflikr COLONIST you have INSTANT online exposure. Once you’re on, within 24 - 48 hours you’ll be climbing up search engine listings. Setting up your profile on Buzzflikr is first and foremost to get more eyes looking at your company. We built the system built on that principle - what is best for our COLONISTS utilizing the latest web technologies.

We’re still in BETA phase and our progress has been excellent! New users are coming and exploring the site as well as signing up and setting up their profiles. We’ve had about 500 unique visitors thus far and about 3000 pageviews. Not staggering traffic yet exciting due to the minimal marketing we have produced. Our focus has not been to become HUGE in our beta phase but rather to cultivate our colony and establish a platform of great features for our clients.

Speaking of features, I’ve got lots in the works! Our URL system is nearly finished. If you’re on Myspace then you have probably setup your own URL for which people can find you easily. We are implementing a similar feature for all of our profile types - including DRONES, WORKERS, and COLONISTS! (for our lingo read here)

Hello all and welcome to Buzzflikr.

We’ve just launched our website and I wanted to fill you in on a few things.

First of all, WE’RE IN BETA!

Which basically means certain parts of our site is still under construction. Sometimes you may see something really weird… most likely it’s because of that. Just shoot me an email at daniel@buzzflikr.com to let me know exactly what you were trying to do. I’m here to keep the hive buzzing so let me know if you see anything that might be wrong.

Second, WE’RE CLOSE TO WHERE WE WANT TO BE!
Just because we’re working on things, doesn’t mean it’s all broken or unsafe.Over the next three months I’ll be fine tuning the system and the best way to do that is to get people on the site and using it. We’re glad to have our launch colonists (like maybe you!) because they are a vital part of the growing process. We have worked hard over many months to make sure to get it right and provide a great service for our clients.

Third, LETS GET BUZZING!
